I've made it – Tom
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m pretty certain a number of us are all too familiar with the chorus of Michael W. Smith’s Heart of Worship. It’s one of those songs that would always play on Sunday Morning as you woke up to go to church… and yet personally I had never really understood the words that came in at that part where they sang “I’ve made it”… it seemed it was always fuzzy, and perhaps you could have easily blamed it on the hugely popular radio cassettes of the time! But the truth is I just didn’t quite expect those words… “I’m sorry Lord, for the thing I’ve made it”
Looking back at those lyrics now opens my eyes to the depth that lay in that so simply yet elegantly arranged stanza. It’s the depth of a truth that constantly reminds us that this is all about God, and in no way about us. And yet so many times it’s when we have come into a place that we feel measures up to what we believe is our fulfillment, that we are quick to compliment ourselves – “I’ve made it!”
2 Corinthians 3:5 clearly shows how derailed a thought process this is when it says “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God” So just because I went over all those hurdles doesn’t mean I could or did jump that high. It’s simply a testimony of God working through me – and I pray that I will be completely selfless to give Him ALL the glory, coz it’s all about Him.

Now you’re talking boss!
wow!! that one line never made sense to me!! was always so puzzled!! till now! so very true! thanks
hey! that’s very right. sometimes i also go back and ask myself: what have i made worship to be that it is not? it puts the right perspective back into the worship
same never really made sense of that part, but now i understand. true their is nothing we do that is us who bring it to completion, its only God who enables us to reach the end.so we cannot say i’ve made it instead GOD has made it.
